Aging Skin Care - Say Goodbye To WrinklesIt’s hard to be anywhere these days without seeing some kind of advert promoting aging skin. With a lot of the Baby Boomer generation already in retirement, and people living much longer, it’s little wonder that aging skin care is now a hot topic. One of the more obvious signs of getting older is the affects age has on our skin. Yes you guessed it, namely wrinkles. Aging skin care is therefore big business as scientists and skin care experts battle it out to find a wonder skin care product to slow down the visible effects of aging. As you may not know wrinkles are caused by damage to the proteins in your skin, these proteins which are called ‘elastin’ are responsible for the skin elasticity. Just like other proteins, elastin is unfortunately subject to damage from free radicals and UV radiation. Essentially, and over time it is the free radicals that are a contributing factor to looking older, and aging skin care basically is the continued battle to counter their effects. Without getting too complicated here, a free radical is just a scientific word for any number of oxygen molecules that have been split and are therefore very reactive, damaging any proteins or DNA molecules they crash into before being absorbed. The DNA damage they do in it’s worst form can lead to skin cancers, and the protein damage unfortunately will lead to wrinkles. Free radicals are absorbed by substances called antioxidants. Therefore, any aging skin care product that contains the use of an antioxidant will likely be beneficial against looking older... Antioxidants are normally applied to the skin in the form of a cream or moisturizer. Some or the more popular examples contain vitamins C and E, and the compound Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA). Unfortunately, these compounds, comonly known as a deep wrink cream will not reverse wrinkles, but will greatly help to slowdown their onset. Combine this with a diet that’s high in antioxidants, things like, dark coloured vegetables, berries and fruits all of which contain natural vitamins for healthy skin, and you’ll soon see improvements in your complexion, and be doing more than most in the battle against aging skin care. However, perhaps more important than antioxidants is reducing the amount of free radicals you introduce into your body initially. Ultra violet radiation will split oxygen present in your skin into free radicals, and smoking essentially soaks your body in an assortment of free radicals too. Quitting smoking and avoiding excessive sun exposure are therefore great first steps to take for aging skin care. By introducing a daily routine with a combination of all these measures mentioned above will help you maintain youthful looking skin for longer. If you already have wrinkles, using plenty of moisturizers or anti-aging creams may also help to reduce their appearance.
